Schema Therapy is an integrative, evidence-based psychotherapy developed for longstanding emotional and interpersonal patterns that can be difficult to change through insight alone.

I am Maria Grish, PhD, LMHC, an ISST Advanced Certified Schema Therapist, Trainer & Supervisor based in Boca Raton, Florida. My work focuses particularly on relational trauma, attachment-related difficulties, personality patterns, chronic shame and self-criticism, boundary difficulties, and recurring relationship patterns.

I provide individual psychotherapy in Boca Raton and telehealth for clients located throughout Florida. I also provide Schema Therapy supervision and consultation for clinicians, and professional training through the Schema Therapy Institute of Florida.

Who I work with

My clinical work often includes adults who appear highly functional in many areas of life but repeatedly find themselves struggling with painful emotional or relationship patterns.

Areas of focus include:

  • Recurring unhealthy relationship patterns
  • Attachment wounds and relational trauma
  • Narcissistic or controlling relationship dynamics
  • Difficulty setting or maintaining boundaries
  • People-pleasing and subjugation
  • Fear of rejection or abandonment
  • Chronic shame and self-criticism
  • Difficulty leaving painful or unhealthy relationships
  • Personality-related patterns and longstanding emotional difficulties
  • Complex relational trauma

What is Schema Therapy?

Schema Therapy integrates elements of cognitive-behavioral, attachment, experiential, psychodynamic, and emotion-focused approaches.

The model helps identify deeply rooted schemas and coping patterns that often developed in response to important early emotional experiences and continue to influence relationships, self-worth, emotional reactions, and life choices.

Treatment may include cognitive work, experiential techniques such as imagery rescripting and chairwork, behavioral pattern change, and development of a stronger Healthy Adult mode. Whether Schema Therapy is the right fit depends on each person's individual situation.
