The first Individual Schema Therapy certification training program based in Florida — in-person intensives in South Florida, with supervision toward ISST Standard and Advanced certification. Directed by an ISST Certified Trainer & Supervisor.
A group for learning schema therapy and working on your own cases — open to clinicians who are just starting out. No formal schema therapy training is required to join. Every session gives you both: something new to learn, and time to work on your own case.
A focused presentation on one topic — modes, conceptualization, imagery rescripting, chairwork — followed by questions.
A participant brings a real case; we map the modes together and work out what to do with it.
Under current ISST requirements, supervision hours can count toward certification once you have begun an ISST-approved certification training — from the first day of an approved workshop, not only after completing Basic Training. What counts is the supervision portion of each session, and group credit is calculated by group size. If you have not begun approved training, hours do not count yet — but you are still very welcome. For many participants this is simply a way to become a steadier clinician with the clients who get stuck.
Places are limited to six.
Maria Grish has practiced in mental health for more than twenty years — originally as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist, and today as a licensed mental health counselor in Boca Raton, Florida. She received her Advanced ISST certification in 2019 and her Trainer & Supervisor certification in 2024.
She has organized and delivered schema therapy training and supervision internationally, including guest lecturing at Florida International University and supervising ISST certification candidates. She founded the Schema Therapy Institute of Florida to bring complete, in-state certification training to Florida clinicians.
The program covers the complete ISST certification curriculum — 26 didactic hours and 16 hours of supervised dyadic practice — and supports you through every step that follows.
Three days: schema theory, assessment, case conceptualization, limited re-parenting, imagery — taught and practiced in pairs.
Three days: mode work with BPD, Cluster C, and narcissistic presentations; chair work; rescripting for change; the therapist's own schemas.
Minimum one year of individual or group supervision (20 sessions for Standard, 40 for Advanced) with recorded-session feedback.
Independent ratings of your recorded sessions, case conceptualizations, and application through the ISST — with the program's guidance.
*If you meet ISST eligibility criteria from the first day of workshop training.
To begin ISST certification training you must meet all three requirements below before the first day of workshop training. Training attended before meeting these criteria cannot later be counted toward certification.
Prior familiarity with schema therapy — an introductory workshop, seminar, or self-study — and reading Schema Therapy: A Practitioner's Guide, Reinventing Your Life, and The Cambridge Guide to Schema Therapy.
Applications open once the program receives ISST approval. Join the interest list and you'll hear first — places in the first cohort are offered to the list before anyone else. No commitment.
