Latinos are the largest minority group in the US, and patterns of mental health conditions, course of illness, and service use in this community call for more accurate assessment and treatment. This talk explores practical considerations for schema therapy with clients from Latino backgrounds.
We often think of the nervous system's fight, flight, or freeze response as a reaction to physical threats, but emotional experiences can trigger the same protective responses. An introduction to Contextual Schema Therapy: how our nervous system shapes emotional patterns, and how schema therapy interventions use this research to support healing from past and present emotional wounds.

Maria Grish, PhD, LMHC, is an ISST Advanced Certified Schema Therapist, Trainer & Supervisor based in Boca Raton, and the founder of the Schema Therapy Institute of Florida.
The event is part of World Schema Therapy Day, celebrated every November by schema therapy communities around the world and by the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST). This year Florida joins in: the event brings local schema therapists together to share the model with the wider clinical community, and marks the institute's first public program.
